Now more than ever we need to protect Arizonans from the possibility of losing healthcare coverage – especially those with pre-existing conditions.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) secured health protections and lifesaving coverage for millions of people, including roughly 3 million Arizonans with pre-existing conditions, yet the law has repeatedly come under attack. Politicians in 18 states, including Arizona, filed suit to overturn the law and now the U.S. Supreme Court will decide whether healthcare protections should be struck down or upheld. We need to protect and improve our healthcare system, not repeal and start from zero.

The Arizona Healthcare Bill of Rights would protect the health of Arizonans, no matter what happens at the federal level. This legislation would fill gaps in healthcare protections at the state level and codify these popular provisions in Arizona law:

• No discrimination based on pre-existing conditions
• Coverage for essential health benefits
• Allowing young adults to stay on a parent’s plan
• No lifetime or annual limits on benefits
• Coverage of preventive services without cost-sharing
  Limiting the sale of short-term, limited duration insurance plans that discriminate against people with preexisting conditions

Now is the time for Arizona to ensure that comprehensive, affordable health coverage will always be available for all Arizonans.
