[PHOENIX, AZ]—Last week, the three-year-old healthcare advocacy group Healthcare Rising Arizona signed up its 1000th dues-paying member. The organization fights to ensure the healthcare system works for all Arizonans. From Phoenix to Tucson, Flagstaff and beyond, members around the state work towards commonsense solutions through the ballot box, direct action, and legislation.

“We’ve grown to one thousand members because people are fed up with the high costs of healthcare,” said Howie Druan of Tucson. “It’s empowering to work with Arizonans of different political affiliations to push for real change. Our healthcare system should work for everyone and together we can fix it.”

This year, Healthcare Rising Arizona is working to end the predatory practices of debt collectors through a ballot measure, the Predatory Debt Collection Protection Act.

“I worked in hospital emergency rooms, so I’ve seen the problems firsthand with our healthcare system,” said Diane Watson, a retired healthcare worker. “I’m happy to be an active, dues-paying member because now I play a part in improving people’s lives by fixing Arizonan’s healthcare system.”

“Healthcare shouldn’t be out of reach for Arizona patients,” said Dimitra Attwood of Mesa. “No family should go bankrupt because of the high cost of care. Together we work for more affordable healthcare and to strengthen the rights of everyday people.”
