Millions of Arizonans have chronic conditions like cancer, diabetes, and heart disease that require prescription drugs for treatment and management, but in 2017, 26 percent of Arizona residents reported that they stopped taking medications as prescribed due to cost.
It doesn’t have to be this way. The Government Accountability Office found in a 2021 report that some drugs are as much as 10 times more expensive in the U.S. than they are in comparably wealthy countries. Big Pharma can’t get away with price-gouging Arizonans like this any longer.
Between 2000 and 2018, 35 large drug companies raked in a combined revenue of $11.5 trillion with a gross profit of $8.6 trillion — more than any other industry in the country. Even if these companies capped costs and lost $1 trillion in sales, Big Pharma would still be the most profitable industry.
Across Arizona, families are struggling to pay for the life-saving drugs they need, forcing people with fixed incomes or no insurance to choose between food and much-needed medication. Let’s show that Arizonans are standing together to protect our families and neighbors against Big Pharma greed. Sign this petition in support of common sense policies to lower drug prices in Arizona.
